A joint effort to provide interoperability among the electronic health records systems of competing vendors is proceeding without a great deal of transparency and openness outside of the participating members.

This is just marketing to combat the market share gains of Epic. Did they say the interfaces will be free? Nope. Sure Cerner et al want to make an interface once and sell it many times.

What's interesting to note is no mention of a funding model for the pilot or the up-and-running HIE. One of the major issues HIE's is sustainabilty beyond the initial seed money to build out the infrastructure. Would this be a subscription model? Does a member pay to "ship" the data, "receive" the data?
