Swine Flu: Hospitals Should Get Proactive

With 40 swine flu cases in the U.S. already diagnosed, a number that promises to go much higher, an executive for one hospital system in San Diego County that treated some of the first cases has a few pointers for his peers.

I'm glad medical experts concurred that preventing widespread panic was a goal when informing the public. Sometimes 6 o'clock news stories can hype up a story and while this tactic drums up ratings, it does little for the public good. It's sad that reporting the facts (such as <a href="http://www.indigestionsymptoms.org/irritable-bowel-syndrome.html">symptoms</a>) is not as entertaining as exaggerated "what-if" scenarios.
