NASHVILLE, TN: Goldberg leaving Vanderbilt Hospital for Loyola post
Larry Goldberg, CEO of Vanderbilt University Hospital, is leaving Vanderbilt after six years to become president/CEO for the Loyola University Health System in Maywood, IL. His appointment at Loyola begins in October. Since his arrival in June 2005, VUH annual discharges have risen 28%, to 35,813, and annual outpatient surgical operations have increased 42%, to 11,122. The construction and opening in November 2009 of the 11-story VUH Critical Care Tower perhaps looms as a principal milestone during Goldberg's tenure at Vanderbilt. [Read More]

NASHVILLE, TN: Kloess retiring as president of HCA's TriStar division
Larry Kloess, who over the past six years has been president of the HCA subsidiary that oversees its Nashville area hospitals, plans to retire at year-end. Kloess, also current chairman of the trade group Tennessee Hospital Association, has spent 28 years with the Nashville-based hospital chain. [Read More]

BATON ROUGE, LA: Viator takes job with LSU Heath Care
Earl K. Long Medical Center administrator Kathy Viator has moved to a job with the LSU division that oversees state public hospitals. Viator will work with the LSU Health Care Services Division's healthcare effectiveness team. Viator will be working with electronic medical records. LSU System assistant vice president for healthcare and medical education Roxane Townsend will serve as the interim CEO at Earl K. Long Hospital, known as EKL. Townsend also is interim CEO of LSU's Health Care Services Division and interim CEO of LSU's hospital in New Orleans. [Read More]

Pinehurst, NC: FirstHealth names CEO
An Ohio healthcare executive has been named CEO of FirstHealth of the Carolinas. David Kilarski, 55, will succeed FirstHealth CEO Charles Frock, who is retiring, on Nov. 1. Kilarski is the president/CEO for two health system hospitals in Ohio within the Cleveland Clinic Health System. He has more than 20 years of experience as a healthcare executive. [Read More]

ROSEVILLE, CA: Adventist appoints 2 CEOs in CA
Terry Newmyer, president/CEO of the Northern California Network of Adventist Health, has appointed Rick Bockmann as CEO of Frank R. Howard. Memorial Hospital in Willits, CA. and Gwen Matthews as CEO of Ukiah Valley Medical Center in Ukiah, CA. Bockmann, 55, is vice president for physician services at St. Helena Hospital Napa Valley and CEO of Adventist Health/California Medical Group, roles he's held since 2007. Since 1999, Matthews, 58, has served as senior vice president/CNO at Glendale Adventist Medical Center in Southern California. [Read More]

LOS ALTOS, CA: El Camino Hospital hires CEO
The El Camino Hospital Board of Directors appointed former UC San Francisco Medical Center executive Tomi Ryba the hospital's president/CEO. Ryba, who served most recently as president of United Hospital in St. Paul, MN, and senior vice president of Allina Hospitals & Clinics, will assume her new position Oct. 5. Ryba succeeds former CEO Ken Graham. Directors voted 3-2 in February not to renew Graham's contract when it expired June 30. [Read More]

NASHVILLE, TN: HCA names Chari VP of clinical excellence
HCA, which operates 164 hospitals and 111 ambulatory surgery centers, today announced Ravi Chari, MD, has been named vice president of Clinical Excellence, a new position, effective immediately. Chari had previously served as CMO of HCA's TriStar Division, which includes 17 hospitals and 9 ambulatory surgery centers in Tennessee, Kentucky and Georgia. In his role, he is responsible for enhancing physician engagement and reducing unnecessary clinical variation in the company's ongoing efforts to improve quality. [Read More]

BEAUFORT, SC: UHS names president of Beaufort Hospital
University Health Systems has named Harvey Case president of Beaufort Hospital. Case, formerly the president of Duplin General Hospital in Kenansville, began his new post at Beaufort on Sept. 1. Case became DGH president in January 2007, shortly before a management agreement with UHS took effect. He ran DGH as it became a full UHS member in October 2010. [Read More]

ALLENTOWN, PA: Lehigh Valley Health Network CFO resigns
Lehigh Valley Health Network CFO Joseph G. Felkner has resigned, the hospital network has announced. The company did not provide an explanation. President/CEO Ronald W. Swinfard, MD, accepted Felkner's resignation effective immediately. Before joining LVHN in 2009, Felkner was senior vice president and chief strategy officer at Baptist Health Care in Pensacola, FF. Mercy Medical Group has announced that Gregory Cooper, MD, a longtime Mercy medical leader, has been named CEO. For the last nine years, Cooper served as Mercy's CMO, helping oversee the group's expansion from 93 to nearly 300 providers in the Sacramento region. More recently during his tenure, Mercy Medical Group acquired Cardiac Surgery West, a six-member cardiovascular surgery team in east Sacramento. The CEO position is newly created by the medical group's board. [Read More]

The American Health Information Management Association's Board of Directors has announced that Lynne Thomas Gordon will take office as the CEO of the 61,000-member leader of health information management. A veteran healthcare executive, her experience also includes academia and a wide spectrum of association involvement. Thomas Gordon will assume her role as CEO on Sept. 29.Thomas Gordon joins AHIMA after serving as associate vice president for hospital operations and director of the Children's Hospital at Rush University Medical Center.
