Nurses Organization Takes on Mariah Carey to Battle Stereotypes
Upset with the portrayal of nurses wearing uniforms that have been in the dyer too long, nurse advocacy group The Truth About Nursing sounded off about Mariah Carey's "Up Out My Face" music video in a press release dripping with sarcasm. "I'm sure Ms. Carey was inspired by the nursing research that shows how music can improve patient outcomes, and she just wanted to pay tribute to the profession," said Sandy Summers, executive director of Baltimore-based advocacy group. "But these images associate nursing with female sexuality, undermining our claims to adequate resources." Millions have already viewed the video, but Summers thinks this may mislead people who do not know much about the profession into thinking nursing is just "a tired sex joke, not a life-saving profession for college-educated men and women." New Web site publishes patient satisfaction, quality data for Illinois hospitals
The Illinois Hospital Association has debuted a Web site that will publish patient satisfaction rankings, quality data, and the type and volume of services hospitals provide. The site,, is the first of its kind in the US. "We want to tell hospitals' stories and open our doors to the community," Patricia Merryweather, the hospital association's senior vice president of quality, told the Chicago Tribune. The Web site will include more patient satisfaction information than CMS's Hospital Compare site. [Read More]
