Administrative expenses are a significant source of rising healthcare costs, not to mention a headache for physicians and practice managers. Doctors have been clamoring for a solution for years. For example, Palo Alto, CA-based Stanford Hospital & Clinics started a trial to test software that will let medical staff access patient charts on the iPhone. President Obama addressed a group of physicians with representation from every state in the White House Rose Garden earlier this week. It was for the most part just a photo op—white coats were reportedly handed out to doctors who forgot their own. Physicians are some of the most trusted voices on healthcare reform, and Obama knows this and has been increasingly seeking out high-profile physician support. The friendly crowd represented groups such as the American Medical Association, the National Medical Association, the Academy of Family Physicians, the American College of Physicians, the American College of Pediatrics, and the American College of Cardiology.
