Physician-owned hospitals faulted on emergency care
Physician-owned hospitals are ill-equipped to deal with medical emergencies, according to a new report from the Inspector General. The report, spurred by the recent deaths of two specialty-hospital patients, says that less than one-third of physician-owned hospitals had a physician onsite at all times, and 34 percent dial 911 to stabilize emergent patients. Study: Overbooking patients can be good for docs
Contrary to popular belief, overbooking patients is actually a sound business strategy, says a study released this week. Overbooking, when done right, actually improves services and efficiency in some health clinics. Researchers used a computer simulator to weigh the benefits (more patients seen) against the costs (longer wait times) of overbooking. The study found that overbooking works best in clinics that have a lot of patients, high no-show rates, and consistent appointment lengths. [Read More]
