Researcher: Doctors should talk about death with patients
A recent study from the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle found that patients who had advance health directives were 2.5 times less likely to die from their illness than those who didn't plan ahead. Though some question the correlation--suggesting patients who've developed plans tend to have attributes that contribute to better health--researchers urge physicians to speak with patients about the possibility of death as they're exploring treatment options.
