Blue Cross, Humana to expand electronic health record
Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Florida Inc. and Humana Inc. have launched a multiple payer electronic medical record, according to the Jacksonville Business Journal. The record will draw on data from several health insurance plans. Maybe the payers have heard the provider grousing about their lack of support for EMRs. [Read More]

Easing the pain of high-deductible health plans
In another example of payer-driven technology, BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee is starting a pilot "real-time claims adjudication system." It enables providers to enter a patient's information into a Web site to find out exactly how much they owe for the visit so they can pay the proper amount before leaving the office. Such initiatives can go a long way toward improving the sometimes rocky relationships between payers and healthcare providers. [Read More]

Group airs report on e-records
The Pennsylvania eHealth Initiative was launched in 2005 to consider ways to create a network for sharing electronic medical records within 10 years.
