Editorial: High-tech healthcare reform

The Los Angeles Times, January 18, 2011
An editorial in the LA Times admonishes healthcare reform naysayers to remember that the law has helped spur innovation in healthcare technologies, including new medical devices. "We should try to build on that spirit, not repeal the reform law," the author writes. Demand for innovative healthcare technologies is soaring, and companies are responding with a host of new products that can make care less costly and more effective, the author writes—a trend that's been gaining momentum for several years, but it's been helped along by the healthcare law enacted last year. In particular, many new technologies dovetail nicely with incentives to improve efficiency, deliver high-quality care, reduce costs, and promote wellness.
