Waterbury (CT) Hospital disciplined over violations

Hartford Courant, March 4, 2010

A mishandling of defibrillators was among numerous violations cited by Connecticut health officials who disciplined Waterbury Hospital. Other violations cited in the report included machines in use that were overdue for routine maintenance and the presence of expired medications in an operating room and another unit. As part of an agreement with the state Department of Public Health, the hospital agreed to hire an outside consulting firm to review and make recommendations about the maintenance program for clinical equipment, patient safety and quality assurance programs, the professional credentialing process, nursing assessments of patients, and other areas, the Hartford Courant reports.
