UConn presents health center proposal to legislators

Hartford Courant, March 12, 2010

UConn officials briefed state legislators on the latest plan for the University of Connecticut Health Center Thursday, pledging that if legislators give the go-ahead for $352 million in proposed construction, renovation, and initiatives, the state would no longer be asked to cover multimillion-dollar deficits at the university's John Dempsey Hospital. Central to the proposal, which Gov. M. Jodi Rell announced this week, are plans to build a $236 million patient tower for Dempsey, a $96 million renovation of existing space, and $20 million in research and teaching initiatives involving other area hospitals.
