Heart center in Waterbury, CT, wins fight to stay open

The Heart Center of Greater Waterbury (CT), which was threatened with closure because it did not perform enough open heart procedures, has been granted permanent operating status from the Connecticut Office of Health Care Access. Loraine Shea, the center's executive director, said the decision recognized that the center performed necessary work even though it fell short of the number of open heart surgeries required by the state.
