MA hospital files for bankruptcy liquidation; work to reopen ER continues

Masslive.com, April 4, 2014

The parent organization of North Adams Regional filed, as was expected, for federal bankruptcy protection Thursday. The Chapter 7 petition will lead to the liquidation and sale of the former hospital's assets, with proceeds going to creditors, and to the dissolution of Northern Berkshire Health Systems under the authority of a court-appointed trustee. But staff members from Berkshire Medical Center will continue to prepare North Adams Regional Hospital's emergency room to reopen, probably in a week to 10 days from now, even before that bankruptcy trustee has been appointed.
