Filling the void: A new service line is born

Kalispell Regional Medical Center (KRMC), nestled in Montana's Flathead River Valley about 40 miles southwest of Glacier National Park, made waves in the mid-1970s when it became the first rural health center in the United States to create a hospital-based helicopter ambulance service. Today, KRMC, which includes a 170-bed hospital and freestanding psychiatric treatment center, a community and rehab center, and an extendedcare facility, continues to explore new ways to serve the surrounding patient population. The newest challenge? Filling the void left by a prominent breast surgeon's retirement.
