In fall 2006, Bellevue Woman's Hospital was thriving. After several years of struggling financially, the 75-year-old hospital located in Niskayuna, NY, was showing a profit, and things were looking good. But on a cold November day, Bellevue was named to a list created by the Berger Commission, a group of officials charged with downsizing the number of hospitals in New York in an effort to reduce healthcare costs.
