Drug utilization still growing, though price increases moderate for common nonspecialty drugs

The 2006 Drug Trend Report from pharmacy benefits manager Express Scripts in St. Louis shows that utilization of common nonspecialty prescription drugs grew by just 2.2% in 2005-2006, but the use of hypnotics and diagnostic products showed double-digit growth, and specialty drugs soared by more than 20%.
