Reconsider full-time equivalent definitions when incorporating part-time physicians into your practice
Part-time work schedules have become increasingly popular among physicians in recent years, and as more doctors seek out part-time work arrangements or request to downgrade to part-time at their current practice, facilities must rethink how they compensate, recruit, and incorporate part-timers.
Both male and female physicians, particularly dual-income couples, now seek part-time work to gain more time to raise young families. Also, older physicians not quite prepared to retire may want to reduce their schedules rather than completely leave a practice.
