Pay attention to factors that indirectly influence compensation

Typically, when a practice considers restructuring its income distribution plan (IDP) for both its partner and non-partner physicians, the normal inclination is to go straight for the formula and focus on aspects that directly relate to the compensation structure. Although this is both understandable and necessary, there are almost always many other noncompensation issues, or factors that indirectly affect compensation, that create challenges for physicians and should be considered during the IDP analysis.
