Pressure for pricing transparency intensifies
Hospitals are feeling growing pressure from patients, the government, and payers to publish pricing and validate quality and value.
The push for transparency is powered in part by the rise in health savings accounts and the number of employers who are asking employees to pay higher premiums and copays.
In addition, some regulatory bodies at both state and federal levels have begun to require consumer reporting, Marlowe J. Dazley, managing director at Phase 2 Consulting in Salt Lake City, said during the recent audioconference "Pricing Transparency: Strategies to identify true cost and remain competitive in a consumer-driven market."
