Building a leadership infrastructure: The next step in the evolution of hospital systems

The goal that initially drove this trend-leveraging size to lower costs-has largely been achieved. But there are still significant advantages to the multiorganizational structure-at least for those willing to challenge old paradigms and adopt new strategies. One of the challenges for a newly formed healthcare system is to integrate all of the varied organizations under its umbrella into a coherent whole while continuing to achieve its patient-care mission.
