Federal government encourages hospitals to develop plans, protocol in preparation of an avian flu pandemic
Epidemiologists worldwide are carefully tracking flu cases to head off what could be a deadly avian flu pandemic, and hospitals nationwide are beginning to discuss which policies and procedures they should adopt in preparation for a possible pandemic. As with any disaster, if a pandemic occurs, hospitals and health systems must work closely with government officials and public health, emergency, and law enforcement personnel to respond effectively.
They must also develop their own internal plans and protocols to adequately prepare, says Bill Bazan, vice president of the Wisconsin Hospital Association. Your medical staff should play a crucial role in developing a plan that works for your organization.
