Consumerism in healthcare: Current trends and future directions

The power of consumerism in healthcare is evident. To answer the question, "What do consumers think of consumerism?" Endresen Institute recently completed a national research study involving telephone interviews with 500 randomly selected healthcare consumers in five geographic regions. Consumers indicated that they are relatively savvy in terms of health trends. More important, they want to make their own choices, and value tools that give them the information to do so. Here are their opinions on several health trends-"boutique medicine," "top-100" designations, quality report cards, and direct-to-consumer marketing
