CMS posted results from its first national 5010 testing day, which was held June 15. During the testing day, 349 Medicare fee-for-service trading partners conducted testing using the version 5010 transaction standard that all covered entities must use beginning January 1, 2012. The transition to 5010 is a necessary prelude to the implementation of ICD-10 in 2013.
From those 349 trading partners, 974 files were submitted without any significant error scenarios reported. In a follow-up survey, 32% of the 68 trading partners who responded stated that they feel ready to process version 5010 transactions.
CMS also recently held National 5010 Testing Week August 22–26, which gave trading partners another opportunity to test compliance efforts, with the support of a real-time help desk and access to Medicare Administrative Contractors.
