Create sustainable solutions for ED call compensation

“If I am on call, I can’t commit to anything.
If I think I might get called in the middle of the night, I might go to bed early and therefore miss my children’s soccer games,” says Napoleon Knight, MD, vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana, IL.

Physicians are also hesitant to take ED call because as the number of uninsured patients presenting at the ED increases, physicians often end up providing services for free.
