Maryland doctors: We get paid, not 'reimbursed'

Washington Business Journal, June 28, 2012

Maryland doctors can't fix the big flaws in modern health care business, but they are trying to fix a small one: They want to banish using the word "reimbursement" to describe their revenue. So from now on, you won't see the word anywhere in official literature from MedChi or from the mouths of its CEO Gene Ransom or any of its doctor leaders. Susan D'Antoni, executive director of the Montgomery County Medical Society, says the word leaves the impression that doctors can afford to provide services out of their own pocket, and whatever insurance kicks back (sometimes weeks or months later) is not required in a timely fashion or is gravy.
