Profits rebound for many Baltimore-area hospitals

Baltimore Business Journal, December 10, 2010

As the recession ended and the economy began to pick up, more Maryland hospitals saw profit gains this past year compared to fiscal 2009.

Four out of 22 hospitals in Greater Baltimore lost money in fiscal year 2010, which ended June 30, according to unaudited financial documents provided to the Baltimore Business Journal by the state’s hospital rate-setting agency. That’s better than in fiscal 2009 when nine hospitals in Greater Baltimore reported losses in total profit.
