Jackson Health System's long-term plan in the works

While Miami-based Jackson Health System renegotiates a contract with its second major union, its executives and governing board members are starting a new analysis of the public hospital system and working out a long-term plan for a "Sustainable Jackson." Because the cash crisis has been momentarily abated by an $80 million advance from the county, "we're going to spend 60 days working through the process" to build a Sustainable Jackson, said John Copeland III, chairman of the Public Health Trust, which governs the system. Chief Executive Eneida Roldan presented the trust with a 22-page proposal on how to approach the analysis, such as, "What are the major characteristics of sustainable safety net health systems?"
