Name chosen for new NY health system

The Times-Union, June 3, 2011

St. Peter's Health Partners is the name chosen for the health system formed by the merger of Northeast Health, St. Peter's Health Care Services and Seton Health. The CEOs of the three organizations disclosed the name during a news conference Thursday morning on the Samaritan Hospital campus in Troy, NY. St. Peter's is the name of the largest of the hospitals involved in the merger, which also includes St. Mary's in Troy and Albany Memorial, as well as Sunnyview Rehabilitation Hospital in Schenectady. "We're trying to bring a faith-based system together with a secular system ... and to create a new secular system," said James Reed, MD, president/CEO of Northeast Health, which includes Samaritan Hospital. "This wasn't a rush to judgment," said Steven P. Boyle, president/CEO of St. Peter's Health Care Services. The selection was "data-driven, data-based," he said.
