In our recent Intelligence Report on The Unsettled State of ACOs (available at no cost on our website), healthcare leaders reported that, as a group, they are less interested in pursuing an ACO—39% of organizations this year versus 64% in 2011. But the leaders who are moving ahead with ACOs have put them on the fast track. Even as healthcare reform twists in the wind, awaiting a Supreme Court decision, many healthcare organizations view ACOs as the route to a sustainable future.

The cracks within the U.S. healthcare system are growing wider each year, and executives are acting now to preserve their organizations. At one of HealthLeaders Media's distinctive Roundtable events, we recently gathered healthcare executives for a three-hour, moderated discussion on "How to Integrate Population Health Strategies to Build Market Share." Leaders from Texas Health Resources, Piedmont Healthcare, and St. Joseph Heritage Health System aren't waiting to be told what the future of healthcare will look like. They're anticipating and creating it. Read about their plans (page 28) to help develop strategies for your own organization.
