Kentucky Medicaid chief resigns amid lawmakers' criticism

Embattled Kentucky Medicaid Commissioner Elizabeth Johnson announced her resignation Tuesday as head of the nearly $6 billion a year health care plan for about 800,000 low-income and disabled Kentuckians.

The Medicaid program, with a record enrollment, faces a potential budget shortfall this fiscal year of nearly $500 million and is attracting increased criticism from some lawmakers and advocates.
